apps: ca,req,x509: Add explicit start and end dates options - Added options `-not_before` (start date) and `-not-after` (end date) for explicit setting of the validity period of a certificate in the apps `ca`, `req` and `x509` - The new options accept time strings or "today" - In app `ca`, use the new options as aliases of the already existing options `-startdate` and `-enddate` - When used in apps `req` and `x509`, the end date must be >= the start date, in app `ca` end date < start date is also accepted - In any case, `-not-after` overrides the `-days` option - Added helper function `check_cert_time_string` to validate given certificate time strings - Use the new helper function in apps `ca`, `req` and `x509` - Moved redundant code for time string checking into `set_cert_times` helper function. - Added tests for explicit start and end dates in apps `req` and `x509` - test: Added auxiliary functions for parsing fields from `-text` formatted output to `tconversion.pl` - CHANGES: Added to new section 3.4 Signed-off-by: Stephan Wurm <atomisirsi@gsklan.de> Reviewed-by: David von Oheimb <david.von.oheimb@siemens.com> Reviewed-by: Tomas Mraz <tomas@openssl.org> (Merged from https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/21716)

TEST: modify tconversion.pl for forensics In the interest of finding out what went wrong with a test by looking at its output, tconversion.pl is modified to take arguments in option form, and gets an additional -prefix option that callers can use to ensure output files are uniquely named. Remove trailing whitespace from some files. The prevailing style seems to not have trailing whitespace, but a few lines do. This is mostly in the perlasm files, but a few C files got them after the reformat. This is the result of: find . -name '*.pl' | xargs sed -E -i '' -e 's/( |'$'\t'')*$//' find . -name '*.c' | xargs sed -E -i '' -e 's/( |'$'\t'')*$//' find . -name '*.h' | xargs sed -E -i '' -e 's/( |'$'\t'')*$//' Then bn_prime.h was excluded since this is a generated file. Note mkerr.pl has some changes in a heredoc for some help output, but other lines there lack trailing whitespace too. unified build scheme: adjust test framework for out of source build tree To be able to run tests when we've built in a directory other than the source tree, the testing framework needs a few adjustments. test/testlib/OpenSSL/Test.pm needs to know where it can find shlib_wrap.sh, and a number of other tests need to be told a different place to find engines than what they may be able to figure out on their own. Relying to $TOP is not enough, $SRCTOP and $BLDTOP can be used as an alternative. As part of this change, top_file and top_dir are removed and srctop_file, bldtop_file, srctop_dir and bldtop_dir take their place. Reviewed-by: Ben Laurie <ben@openssl.org>

Do not use redirection on binary files On some platforms, the shell will determine what attributes a file will have, so while the program might think it's safely outputting binary data, it's not always true. Change OpenSSL::Test to be an extension of Test::More It became tedious as well as error prone to have all recipes use Test::More as well as OpenSSL::Test. The easier way is to make OpenSSL::Test an extension of Test::More, thereby having all version checks as well as future checks firmly there. Additionally, that allows us to extend existing Test::More functions if the need would arise. Reviewed-by: Rich Salz <rsalz@openssl.org>

Add a helper script for key file format conversion tests As tests are done until now, there are a few scripts that look almost, but not quite the same. tkey, tx509, tcrl, tpkcs7, treq, tsid and probably a few more. recipes/tconversions.pl is a helper script that generalises the function of each of those, and can then be used in a general manner from test recipes.
