The ascii to wchar was reporting errors using conv_illegal_output,
while it should have been using WCSGROUP_THROUGH. Effectively that

The ascii to wchar was reporting errors using conv_illegal_output,
while it should have been using WCSGROUP_THROUGH. Effectively that
replaced illegal characters with '?' for the purpose of
identification.
